Every week, more culture comes out than anyone can reasonably keep up with. Films that deserve an audience disappear in forty-eight hours. Records that will define a year get buried under algorithm noise. The things worth paying attention to slip past — not because you don’t care, but because there’s no one doing the filtering for you.

Found Object is a weekly letter
about the culture you almost missed.

I write about movies, music, and the ideas that connect them — the shot a director held two seconds longer than you expected, the album that makes sense of a feeling you couldn’t name, the pattern between things nobody thought to put next to each other. This isn’t a review column. It’s closer to what happens when someone who’s been watching and listening obsessively for twenty years finally writes it all down.

What shows up in your inbox:

Held Up to Light — A lead essay examining one piece of culture closely. Not a review. More like holding a thing up, turning it, seeing what catches.

What I Found — Three to five recommendations with brief commentary. Films, records, articles, performances — whatever earned the attention that week.

Debris — Quick links and fragments. The margins of a notebook, shared.

Excavation — Occasional deep dives. Longer pieces that dig into a director’s body of work, a genre’s evolution, or a cultural moment that deserves more than a take.

Who this is for:

You watch films with intention and talk about them after. You still discover music rather than just consume it. You want someone who takes culture seriously without performing seriousness. You’d rather read one good recommendation than scroll through fifty algorithmic ones.

If that sounds like you, subscribe. It’s free, it arrives once a week, and it’s written by a human being who actually watched and listened to everything in it.

Who I am:

I’m Rodrigo Brancatelli. I work in content and media, I’ve spent most of my professional life thinking about how stories and ideas reach people, and I’ve spent most of my personal life in movie theaters and record stores. Found Object is where those two things finally meet.

You can find me on Substack Notes, where I post shorter observations between issues.
